Do you ever wonder what other BGS students are working on while they earn their degree?
Rebecca Walch is currently working on her Bachelor of General Students degree, with an emphasis in history, and she recently won the 2018 Excellence in Research Using the Holdings of the State Archives award. She is the researcher who has used the records of the State Archives in a creative and insightful way and has contributed to a greater understanding of a topic and an increased awareness of the research value and availability of archival resources. Specifically, Rebecca compared digital images of Dutch colonial records on the State Archives website with published transcriptions and translations to reconstruct a more accurate list of petitioners.
Regent Judith Johnson, Co-Chair of the Board of Regents Cultural Education Committee said, “It’s critical that our history is preserved for future generations. Thanks to the work and dedication of this year’s winners, New York’s history will be available for use and research for many years to come.”
