To be eligible students must have completed a minimum of 27 credit hours on campus in Provo as an admitted day student.
Life may have taken you away from BYU, but now you’re ready to complete your degree. The Bachelor of General Studies program is designed for students who have previously attended BYU but have not completed any courses as an admitted student within the past two years.
BGS students primarily complete their studies online and are not eligible to enroll in daytime, on-campus semester courses.
You’ve been studying on campus but now seek greater flexibility to finish your BYU degree.
Current BYU students who have completed at least 90 credits can apply for the BYU Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program if they meet the above requirements for admission.
Current BYU students who have not completed at least 90 credit hours will need to wait two years before applying to the BGS program.
The BGS program serves students who are no longer able to complete their degree on campus. As a result, BGS students are not eligible for certain campus-based offerings, including:
- Daytime fall and winter semester courses
- Federal financial aid
- On-campus student employment
- ROC passes
- Other services reserved for full-time, day students
To be eligible students must have never received a bachelor’s degree or higher from any institution, including BYU.
To be eligible students must be in good standing (academic, financial, etc.) at all universities attended, having a 2.0 or higher BYU and cumulative GPA. If you have ever been on academic warning, probation, or suspension, please contact the BGS office before proceeding with the application.
To be eligible students must abide by the CES Honor Code and receive an annual ecclesiastical endorsement.
